Model Policies for Schools

This page is intended to provide shortcuts to sections on the Hertfordshire Grid for Learning with 'model' policies that are available for schools to use. It does not cover all policies and procedures, only those that are model policies which can be adapted by schools.

Model policies are given to assist governing bodies in drafting and agreeing their own school policy, the details of which will vary from school to school depending on their size, structure and needs. Model policies should therefore be adapted – not adopted. Occasionally a policy includes statutory requirements (for example statutory time limits in which to hold exclusion hearings) which must be adhered to.

The Department for Education's 'Statutory Policies for Schools' document outlines the policies and other documents governing bodies are legally required to hold.

December 2011

A number of non-statutory school policies which are the copyright of Adamson Publications, and which were issued on the Grid under Licence, have been removed as Adamson Publications have now issued updated policies in their new publication "Policies. A Guide for School Governors and Headteachers".

This new publication includes up-to date policies for the school year 2010-11, is relevant to all phases of maintained school and to academies, and can be purchased direct by schools and academies from Adamson Publications.  For further details:
