Joining the Hertfordshire Well-Being Programme

Unlock the potential of your school by investing in the well being and effectiveness of all your staff

For the past eight years, schools in Hertfordshire have had the opportunity to join the successful Well-Being Programme from Worklife Support Ltd. This programme enables both teaching and support staff to carry out two surveys of staff perception within a three year period. Staff are thereby able to accurately measure their progress and build on their success.

Benefits of the Well-Being Programme

Schools involved in the Well-Being Programme have experienced some, or all of the following benefits:

  • Improved emotional well being, which has contributed to a reduction in staff absence
  • Lower supply costs and greater stability as a result of fewer staff absences
  • Increased staff morale, helping to encourage staff retention and recruitment
  • Improved school effectiveness and standards through increased stability and motivation
  • A head-start in the self-evaluation process through the online self-review
  • A framework in which to improve communication and monitor change

Why is Staff Well Being so Important?

The Well-Being Programme works with schools to create healthy and positive working environments in which the well being and effectiveness of staff lie at the heart of everything they do. The programme helps schools to recognise their strengths and achievements as well as identify priority areas for development and action.

Well-Being works hand-in-hand with the National Healthy School Standard and Investors in People and provides an objective resource to take forward ideas for development. It also fulfils your duty of care requirements by providing a risk assessment tool and ensuring that health and safety issues have been addressed.

The 3-year Well-Being Programme will include:

  • An Induction Pack for headteachers to engage them in the programme and help them clarify their aims and objectives and set up the programme within their schools.
  • A half-day induction for school-based facilitators who will champion the programme within their schools.
  • Access to an online survey (the Organisational Self-Review Measure or OSRM) open to all school staff at the beginning of the programme.
  • A full data profile of outcomes is provided after the survey has been completed.
  • Analysis of school’s data at a half day Development Meeting. This meeting provides the headteacher and facilitators with an opportunity to review the findings of the survey and map out priority areas for development. The County Well-Being Co-ordinator is on hand at this meeting to give support and guidance with this and help plan the next steps.
  • A half day review meeting is held half way through the programme to review progress and set up the next phase.
  • Occasional network meetings are held to support school-based Well-Being facilitators and enable them to share best practice.
  • A second survey within a three year period to measure progress and embed the process into the culture of the school.
  • A comparative data profile is prepared for the school and a second Development Meeting is arranged to compare the outcomes of the second survey against the first and plan the next steps.
  • Online resources and on-going consultancy to support the school throughout their programme of Well-Being development.
  • Cost: A one off Registration Fee of £100 payable at time of application, plus £12 per member of staff on payroll, payable at time of each survey.
