'People working in support roles are at the heart of school reform. Developing people to support learning - A skills strategy for the wider school workforce 2006-09, The School Workforce Development Board.

The TDA has reported that over the past ten years, there has been a significant growth in numbers of school support staff by nearly 130%. There are currently more than 60 different support staff roles and more than 300,000 full-time equivalent support staff nationwide. The steepest rise in numbers has been within the Administrative and Teaching Assistants’ roles.

These details, along with the Hertfordshire Continuing Professional Development Framework for Support Staff, aim to provide a starting point for schools providing a coherent picture in the current provision offered by a range of training providers within Children Schools and Families for Support Staff training and development.
