CPD Day Review: July 2011

Many of our Secondary Advanced Skills Teachers met for a CPD day on 4th July 2011. We had a good day with sessions on:

  • Updates - National, HCC, SSE, Curriculum Team, AST role and impact of AST support

  • Working with Challenging Adults

  • Coping with change

  • Meeting in subject teams
Session on ‘Working with Challenging Adults’

ASTs were given the challenge of solving the problems in these questions:

  • What happens if I delegate to someone who is lacking motivation?
  • What happens if I direct someone who is highly skilled but switched off?
  • What happens if I inspire someone who does not have the skills to be successful?
  • What happens if I give someone a task which they can’t do and don’t want to do?

The photographs show ASTs in groups describing, through a variety of materials, how you Guide, Delegate, Inspire or Direct the teachers they support.

The session on ‘Working with Challenging Adults’ turned into a very practical and creative problem solving activity as you will see from the photographs
