Cache Level 2 Certificate for Support Work in Schools(SWS)

This certificate is suitable for both teaching assistants and admin staff who have not previously taken any qualifications. Supported by Hertford Regional College or West Herts College, candidates complete four units of work. If a school has eight or more candidates the college will run the course in the school. More details:

Higher Level Teaching Assistants

Higher Level Teaching Assistant status (HLTA) is highly recommended for anyone who may be taking on specified work – planning and delivering lessons in one area of the timetable. Funding is available for those teaching assistants wishing to obtain Higher Level Teaching Assistant status.

STA Courses

The STA Certificate courses seek to enhance TAs’ knowledge and understanding of how they can most effectively support children and class teachers in delivering literacy and numeracy and how best to support individuals and small groups across the curriculum. The University of Hertfordshire run both primary and secondary STA courses in Hatfield. This involves attendance at the University for one day a week; assessment is by assignments and essays.

NVQs

The NVQs for Teaching Assistants at Levels 2 and 3 are work-based qualifications, designed for those who work with teachers in classrooms supporting the learning process in primary, secondary and specialist schools. After attending a start session candidates do most of the work in school, supported by an assessor.
