HLTA Assessment Opportunity - Fast Track New

The TDA have recently announced a continuation of funding for HLTA assessments for a limited period. This could be withdrawn at any point, with two months notice, so the Eastern Leadership Centre (ELC) have taken the decision to work with Hertfordshire LA to offer a Fast Track version of preparation and assessment to enable schools to access the funding available.  We hope to run a cohort at the Oaklands College, St Albans and are writing to all schools to see what interest there would be.

In the past preparation for assessment has been a three day programme that takes place over several weeks. Candidates then used to have a 12 week window to complete their assessments. In this model there is a possibility that schools would have to fund the assessment fee of £500 as it would fall outside the two months that the TDA have given.

In order to complete the process within two months we are offering the Fast track version in the following model:

  • The preparation for assessment will run over two days, with candidates expected to do an equivalent of a day’s independent study in between – there will be a minimum of one week between the days
  • These days will run from 9am until 4.30
  • Candidates may be assessed a minimum of two months after the Day 1, although this may be longer if TDA funding is continuing
  • The dates and venue will be:

Venue: Oaklands College, St Albans
Day 1: 23rd January 2012
Day 2: 3rd February 2012

  • To access these days candidates must have evidence of level 2 in literacy and numeracy (GCSE Grade C or above, or equivalent)
  • They also must have the signature of the Head Teacher that they are already able to meet all the HLTA standards, including advancing learning with whole classes
  • Whilst the cost of assessment will be met (assuming completion within the 2 month window), the cost for the preparation will be £150 per candidate
  • The £500 assessment fee will only be covered by the TDA if the assessment is completed within the two months of the first day of preparation - if it is delayed the school will be liable for the assessment fee – this effectively means a much shorter window for assessment
  • To get a viable group we would need to have at least 10 applicants.

Please note that if we receive notice from the TDA that the funding has been withdrawn before 23rd January 2012 this course will be withdrawn.

ELC will administer the applications, and will liaise with candidates etc.

If you or your colleagues are interested in applying please contact the ELC on 01223 499227 or email hlta@elc-cambridge.org with any queries, or to request an application pack.

The closing date for applications is:  16th January 2012.
