School Web Site of the Month - April 2008

Why is SS Alban & Stephen
RC Infant & Nursery School School Web
Site of the Month?
- This is an excellent site that is regularly updated with the latest news and events from the school.
- This site is easy to navigate around and information can be found quickly.
- There is good use of images throughout the site and each image is at a good size - not too big that they can either make the page take too long to download or compromise pupil safety, and not too small that it is difficult to see the images properly. Each image has an alt tag (alternative text) assigned to it which appears when you hover a mouse over the image on the web. This is a useful tool for people who either have their images turned off or have a disability and may be using a screen reader to browse around the site.
- Putting a link to the school song on the site is a nice idea. Visitors are provided with an option of clicking on a link to play the song rather than it playing automatically as the page loads. This is one of the best ways of publishing sound on a web page.
Further development ideas:
- Some of the pages i.e. the news page have tables with the borders on them. Some of these tables would be better if the properties were set to '0' so that the borders are turned off. This can help the pages have an even more professional look.
- Some of the text on the PTA page is underlined which can be confusing to visitors as it looks as if it is a hyperlink.
Overall, the SS Alban & Stephen
RC Infant & Nursery School website
is an excellent site.
