School Web Site of the Month - May 2004

Why is Parkgate Infants' and Nursery School
Web Site of the Month?
- There are some nicely designed graphics and children's drawings on
the site. These appear on each page and help to contribute towards a
fun and friendly feel to the site.
- There is a good use of PDF documents as well as a useful link to download
the Adobe Acrobat Reader for visitor that don't have it installed on
their PC.
- The information on the site is easy to read, as all the text is brief
as well as being informative.
- Repeating the navigation that appears down the left-hand side on the
bottom of the screen as well is very helpful for visitors. It is user-friendly
and helps to reduce scrolling.
Further Development Ideas for Parkgate
Infants' and Nursery School's Web Site
- It would be helpful if the bottom navigation could show a difference
in colour between visited and unvisited links. This would make it possible
to see at a glance which pages had not been viewed.
- The back to home link could be more made more prominent. Perhaps it
could also be added to the navigation down the left and the bottom of
the screen as well.
- The tables would be better set to 100% width of the screen rather
than using a set pixel size. Using tables set to 100% will ensure that
the tables on the page will stretch and reduce to fit whichever size
screen the visitor was viewing the site with. This would help to reduce
the amount of scrolling needed on some of the pages.
- The web site could be made more accessible for vistors using a screen
reader by providing more descriptive alternative text tags. This would
be particularly useful for the welcome message on the home page and
for the school logo.
Overall, Parkgate Infants' and Nursery School
is an excellent site. Visit www.parkgateinfants.herts.sch.uk
