IntroductionThe Work Related Learning (WRL) Toolkit is a staff development resource for advisers or managers in LEAs, Careers services/companies, and EBPs etc. to use in their work with schools, colleges and training providers. The Toolkit has been developed on the understanding that Work Related Learning (WRL) is part of the range of experiences which help prepare pupils for adult life and, in particular, secure for all pupils’ progression to future learning, training and/or employment. It has been developed collaboratively under the management of the LEA Curriculum Advisers’ Network (LEA CAN 14+) with funding from DfES, LEAs, CIEH, CfA, and most recently FEDA. The Toolkit is essentially a "live" document that will continue to grow as practice in the use of WRL in local areas develops. ContentsThe Toolkit consists of an introduction,
which covers using the toolkit, followed by five sections (A – E),
which focus on general guidance. These documents are available
to download from this page
It is intended that further sections for occupational sectors such as Hospitality and Catering, Built Environment, Engineering, Commercial Horticulture, Hairdressing, Retail and Distribution, Sport and Recreation will be written. The Toolkit is also produced as a photocopiable resource; purchasing a copy will provide one paper copy and a CD version. Availability and CopyrightCopies of the Toolkit are available for purchase. For more information see the contact information be below. The copyright of the materials remains the property of LEACAN 14+. The purchase of the Toolkit provides a licence to use the materials collaboratively in the purchaser’s local authority area. Included in this licence is the permission to photocopy the materials and also to customise them for local use providing that their origin is acknowledged. PrinciplesThe Toolkit is based on the following principles underpinning effective Work Related Learning. WRL:
