Good Practice
Case Study - Marriotts School
Marriotts
is a co-educational all ability school for students from 11 to
18 years. It is situated on a site overlooking the Fairlands Valley.
The school playing fields run along the east side of the Fairland
Lakes, which offer a range of water-sport activities.
Curriculum Provision In January 1997 the school felt that
some of the GCSE courses were unsuitable or inappropriate for
some of our students and wanted to provide a vocational route
at KS4.
When the school tested students in reasoning, spelling, reading
and maths it showed that there was a group of students failing
to achieve an average score. Therefore time was spent looking
at the suitability of courses that all students could access.
Achievements so far Clear progression routes for students
and Taster sessions in two work related courses lead to students
following a NVQ Level 1
