Educational Video Resources on DVD from our collection of over 11000 programmes

Whether you need a single programme to introduce a particular topic, a range of programmes to support a course of work, or material on an area of the curriculum that is proving difficult to resource, copies of programmes are available from our extensive collection of educational broadcasts.

This collection consists of programmes recorded from BBC1, BBC2 (including the Learning Zone), ITV and CH4, along with programmes from other broadcasters, and from the digital “Freeview” channels. The collection covers material to support Early Years through to the Secondary Curriculum, as well as Special Educational Needs.

  • Copies are made to order from our master recordings.
  • Copies can be made to meet your specific requirements, from single programmes, whole series, a unit of programmes from within a series, or on a particular subject from a variety of sources.
  • Copies are normally supplied on DVD in a crystal case. Alternatively copies can be supplied on VHS videocassette, in a plastic sleeve. Library cases are available for both formats.

Finding out what is available

  • Most of the programmes we hold are listed in alphabetical order by series and then by title, in pdf format, as part of this web site.
  • On a separate list, the same programmes are arranged in Dewey order, so that programmes on the same or related subjects are grouped together. This list, in pdf format, also forms part of this web site.
  • Separate lists for the Modern Foreign Languages, Revision and INSET programmes are also available upon request.
  • Subject or series lists are available upon request.

Some idea of the scope of material available can be had from our website, but for more comprehensive information, particularly on specific topics and recent additions, as well as on age, content and suitability, please contact us.

Licensing and charges

The recordings held by Hertfordshire Schools Library Service are made under licence from the Educational Recording Agency (ERA).

Schools, Resource and Advisory Centres, Local Authorities or other educational establishments holding a current, valid, ERA licence may order a copy of an off-air recording for educational use within the scope of the ERA licence, so that broadcast programmes useful for students are not inadvertently missed by ERA licensees.

Hertfordshire Schools Library Service reserves the right to check whether a particular establishment is covered by a current, valid licence and in cases of doubt we will not supply materials until it can be clearly established that this condition has been met.

While it is not able to sell copies commercially, Hertfordshire Schools Library Service does make a charge to cover its costs in providing this service as well as those for packing and postage, and any VAT on these costs.

We can usually provide an outline costing over the telephone but we are happy to provide a formal, written quotation upon request.
