Autumn Term 2011

Picture a Story: KS1/2

Reading and Art Event with
Guest illustrator: Mini Grey

Thursday 8 March 2012
KS1 9.30am - 11.45am
KS2 1.00pm - 3.00pm

Our popular Picture a Story event will take place next March, in conjunction with the Hertfordshire County Art Collection. We will produce a shortlist of picture books for participating schools to enjoy during the Spring Term together with an information pack and ideas for school-based activities centred around the event.

On 8 March schools may bring along up to six children to hear Mini Grey speak about her books and inspiration for her artwork. The children will be able to participate in an art trail, the aim of which is to link original art and artefacts from the County Art

Collection (www.intra.thegrid.org.uk/hertsart) with the illustrations from the shortlisted books. This will provide an opportunity for children to see, use and be inspired by original works of art, and to appreciate that art is all around us in our everyday lives. There will be a separate selection of art and questions for each Key Stage.

Suitable for:

All schools interested in raising the profile of reading and art at KS1 and KS2

Guest speaker:

Mini Grey's books include Egg Drop, The Pea and the Princess, Biscuit Bear, Traction Man is Here, The Adventures of the Dish and the Spoon, and Traction Man meets Turbodog. She is the winner of numerous awards including the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal and the Nestlé Children's Book Prize Gold Award, and is one of the Big Picture's Ten Best New Illustrators. Her latest book is Traction Man and the Beach Odyssey.

Cost:

£95.00 per school, per session (up to 2 adults and 6 children).

SLS will produce a shortlist of 6 titles and provide an information pack.
