Chemistry Week 2007 - Fuelling The Future -
3-11 November 2007
Chemistry Week is a themed week of events. Held every two years it promotes a positive image of chemistry and increases public understanding of the importance of chemical science in our everyday lives.
The theme of Chemistry Week 2007 is Travel. This has been chosen to support the RSC's energy and transport campaign of Fuelling the Future, with a particular emphasis on how chemistry offers positive solutions to the energy challenges that travel (and transport) are facing today.

Secondary & Primary Science Teachers are Invited to a STEM Consultation
Meeting 12th March 2007 at
Wellcome Trust, London
Dear Colleague
ASE needs your help and views at a STEM consultation meeting in London.
I apologise for the short notice.
The meeting date is 12 March 2007 in
London at the Wellcome Trust, 215 Euston Road, London, NW1 2BE, 16:30
for 17:00 and ending at
19:30.
Expenses will be paid. The meeting is being called by Professor
John Holman, National STEM Director and Centre Director of the National
Science Learning Centre.
John Holman wants to talk to some secondary science teachers / heads of
science about the ideas for reducing the number of STEM support schemes
down to 10 as set out in the STEM programme report Action 17 - "By July
2007, reflecting advice from the National STEM Director, DfES and DTI
will agree, with other funders, on no more than ten national schemes of
STEM support for schools (excluding national teacher supply measures)
that should receive national funding and endorsement; and on how
particular existing schemes and funding streams should be rationalised
to fit within this simpler framework, building on those which can
contribute most to achieving our objectives at national level."
The full report can be downloaded from:
Are you or any of your colleagues interested in attending and
influencing this national initiative?
Please email me if you can attend or let me have names and contact
details of any interested teachers in your school/college.
Thank you for your support.

Understanding the new GCSEs: “Science for the pub or the 21st Century?”
To be held at the Science Learning Centre East of England
The Science Learning Centre network have put together a suite of professional development courses for teachers to help provide the skills necessary to teach the new courses effectively. This invite offers an unprecedented opportunity to experience a taster day of activities taken from these courses to allow you to make up your own mind about the changes.
The day is aimed at colleagues from industry and the SETPOINTs, journalists, politicians and policy-makers. Assuming that all who attend will have the best interests of the nation’s learners at heart, the day will also include space for you to consider how you could contribute to supporting schools in educating future generations of scientists.
Please reply either by email or by returning the reply form below as soon as possible:
