Primary Strategy Consultant LeadersPSCL funding comes to an end in April and the future is not clear. All there is to say is that ' Primary Strategy Consultant Leaders are experienced and successful Hertfordshire headteachers who support schools and disseminate good practice within PNS programmes. They form a vital part of our field force raising standards in schools. National funding to support PSCLs ends in April 2007. However Hertfordshire is retaining PSCLs until the end of the current academic year.'
Leading Teachers in HertfordshireHertfordshire currently have a very strong team of Leading Teachers who are judged as good or outstanding practitioners in Literacy, Mathematics or Early Years Provision. Leading Teachers are deployed to work with class teachers in partner schools supporting their professional development needs. Evaluations from schools supported have consistently shown that the work of these Leading Teachers is highly valued and has had a very positive impact on teaching and learning across the county. Many Leading Teachers have taken part in Lesson Study research projects focusing on jointly developing aspects of pedagogy to secure accelerated progress for children. Every Child a Writer is a Leading Teacher project which has been very effective over the last year, involving a tailored approach to working with class teachers to secure 2 levels of progress in writing across Key Stage 2. In the past years the funding for Leading Teachers was provided by the Primary National Strategy and this ended in March 2011. After consultations at the Head Teacher’s Seminars, the overwhelming consensus was in support of Hertfordshire’s continuing involvement in the administration of the LT scheme. This reflected a recognition of the importance of quality assurance around selection and the provision of high quality CPD, to ensure consistently strong and co-ordinated services both for schools and Leading Teachers. Schools who would like to access LT support will need to pay £225 per day. Requests for Leading Teacher support should come through the LA who will deploy the Leading Teachers, in negotiation with their Head Teachers and wherever possible, within the geographical area of the Leading Teacher’s own school. Their work will be monitored and managed by the Hertfordshire Teaching and Learning Advisory team and the Early Years Team.
