Assessment

Projects

Hertfordshire LEA has been working on two projects intended to raise standards with the assessment, recording and reporting of progress in PE.

Assessment, recording and reporting in individual PE units

In order to support judgements about progress within individual PE units, or progress across a limited number of units during a specific time frame, the requirements of units can be broken down so that teachers can focus more narrowly on pupil progress in relation to elements of a unit.

If Gymnastics - Unit 1, were to be broken down into its elements this would give the three areas below in relation to which pupil progress would be assessed. In order to support teachers in making judgements about progress, a download file is provided for each area with the information on which would enable teachers to make assessment judgements.

Body Awareness

Having assessed pupils in relation to the specific demands of these three aspects of this unit, teachers are then in a position to record and report pupil achievement.

For further information, and details about the application of this assessment approach to other PE units, please consult the Training calandar or contact the County Adviser - PE.
