As introduced in The Children’s Plan (2007) and following the success of the Making Good Progress national pilot, funding is now being made available to support schools in providing one to one tuition.  This intervention involves funding eligible pupils to receive 10 hours of one to one tuition with a qualified tutor (usually a qualified teacher) in English, Mathematics, or both.

One to one tuition offers pupils an intensive burst of individual and personalised support to address identified learning needs and support pupils in achieving their full potential.

one to one tuition Hertfordshire has developed the Hertfordshire toolkitOne to One Tuition Hertfordshire Toolkit

To support schools in the effective implementation and carrying out of one to one tuition Hertfordshire has developed the Hertfordshire toolkit.

This draws upon both local and national guidance which has been blended with our experiences of the recent Hertfordshire Key Stage 2 pilot.

Electronic versions of the supporting documents within the toolkit can be found on this website.

Leading One to One Tuition in School

For headteachers and senior leaders, this information, alongside the DCSF document Developing one to one tuition: Guidance for Local Authorities and Schools, will support you in implementing and embedding this initiative in your school, helping you to develop a framework successfully managing and coordinating one to one tuition.

Information for One to One Tutors

As well as guidance on becoming a one to one tutor, information is available on the training programme available to tutors (including the mandatory ‘First Steps in Tuition’ training), as well as useful resources in Key Stage 2, 3 and 4.  This guidance should be used alongside the DCSF document Developing one to one tuition: Guidance for Tutors.
