MECSS - Introduction and Guide to the Service
The Minority Ethnic Curriculum Support Service
(MECSS) is engaged in working with schools to raise the achievement of
minority ethnic pupils and
supporting race equality in Hertfordshire schools.
- MECSS provides support to ensure access to and achievement in the
curriculum.
- MECSS targets support to schools to raise the achievement of bilingual,
African Caribbean, Refugee and Traveller pupils.
- MECSS is a trading unit and 85% of the Ethnic Minority Achievement
Grant funding is delegated to schools.
- Local services for local schools.
Well qualified and trained staff both teachers and teaching assistants
work alongside staff in schools to support the progress and achievement
of bilingual, African Caribbean, Refugee & Traveller pupils.

The Minority Ethnic Curriculum Support Service is a well lead and successful
team, which is valued and highly regarded by the schools, as shown by
the school survey and by the school visits, where all four of the schools
visited which have contact with the service rated it highly.
