Almond Hill Junior School, Stevenage

Maths Week March 27th to March 31st

Almond Hill has proved that maths is indeed fun - Well done Almond Hill!

During this week all the activities, teaching and learning were based on mathematics.

Each year group had a specific focus:

Year 3 Art - including a trip to the National Gallery
Year 4 The Environment - including a day's visit to Cuffley Camp
Year 5 Literacy - the children wrote stories with a maths theme; they then read these to children at a nearby Infants' school.
    Year 6 Multicultural maths.

In addition, a local architect and representatives from 3 Valleys Water, Tesco, SETPOINT, Marks and Spencer and Glaxo visited the school to talk about the part Maths plays in their jobs.

Throughout the week, homework took the form of a challenge to design and make a board game with a mathematical theme. The standard was very high, both in presentation and variety of content. Now, teachers and children have a wealth of games at their disposal.

All the work produced over the week was displayed in the school during the period of Parents' Evening to enable parents to see the fruits of their children's labours.

Well done Almond Hill!
