Heads of Mathematics Conference 2006This year we held the Heads of Maths Conference on 23rd June 2006. We started the day with a resume of the ‘Where’s the Maths in that’ conference and continued this theme into teaching Mathematics through sport. We were all able to participate in Archery, provided by Outdoor Activities Teaching, some more enthusiastically than others!!! Please insert picture on the website. Once back in the safety of a classroom we listened to Richard Browne from QCA. He discussed the new specifications for 2006 and gave us the results of the recent survey into coursework. The outcome was a resounding request to cease all coursework from first teaching 2007. This IS NOT official yet but we are expecting an announcement soon. We also discussed the double GCSE intended from 2010. What is the place of Functional Mathematics within the new schemes? These discussions generated many questions but as of yet not too many answers. In the afternoon we had two presentations. The first from Graham Yapp, Senior Schools Improvement Partner, speaking about data. We looked at both value added data and contextual value added data. We discussed the merits of both for post result examination analysis and predictive information. The second presentation was from RM about generic Learning platforms. This was an information session about where ICT data organisation systems are progressing and where we may need to develop our skills in the near future. The session was very informative. The whole day was well received and we thank those that attended. We look forward to working with you all again soon. Our next conference has a draft title of ‘Working Mathematically’ and is scheduled for the Summer term 2007. |
