History in Hertfordshire
History is a well established and popular subject in Hertfordshire schools
in all age groups. There has been a tradition of curriculum development
within the subject with pilot schemes for GCSE and A Level courses run
in county in the past.
Hertfordshire offers much to support and encourage history. There are
superb sites for field work, ranging from pre-Roman settlement times to
the New Towns of the twentieth century. Hertfordshire's museums have a
deservedly high reputation for the work done in support of schools. Hertfordshire
Archives and Local Studies provides both a vast fund of available local
history materials and opportunities for teachers and students to visit
and work on site. The county is well situated for visits to a number of
sites and museums in the south of England and beyond and schools frequently
make great use of the enormous range of opportunities open to them.
