Who we are looking for

We are looking for people who are active, enjoy working in the outdoors and understand the importance of making outdoor education fun, exciting and safe.

You would ideally have a relevant qualification in outdoor education or environmental studies. and experience working with young children.  How ever; we are also interested in people who may have experience of a variety of out door adventurous and environmental activities and have some experience working with children.   The post is ideal for people who want to move on to full time teaching or want to broaden their experience with in the outdoor industry.   The Centre offers a comprehensive induction and training programme in all the adventurous and environmental activity you will be teaching. This includes the opportunity to gain a GNAS and first aid qualification.  This support continuous through out your contract to help you develop your professional, and  group leadership skills.

Who it caters for?

The Centre provides residential courses to mainly, though not exclusively, primary age children. These come from the surrounding counties of Hertfordshire, Essex, Middlesex and North London. The groups stay for between 2 to 6 nights. We also cater for groups visiting just for the day. During the holidays and half terms the centre provides a daily program of activities for children from the local community. It also opens its camp sites to family groups for a limited number of weeks during August

Life in the day of a tutor at Cuffley Outdoor Centre

The day starts with a check of the daily time table with people starting at different times according to their shift pattern its important to check for any changes. Most days tutors will lead between 5 and 7 sessions ranging from environmental sessions such as pond dipping or leading an activity to some thing a little more energetic such as a mountain biking session.

With the range of activities on offer for schools to choose from it makes for a varied day. A tutor also has a variety of other tasks essential to keeping the centre running. These range from supervising the children into the dining room to assisting the caretaking team moving luggage or carrying out safety checks on the ropes courses. Of course on such a busy site situated with in 90 acres of woodland there is always the odd incident to deal with such as helping a lost child relocate their group or issuing equipment to a school group.
Some evening and weekend work is involved.

Accommodation

The centre has a limited amount of basic accommodation which we make available at no extra cost, we also provide a uniform and a breakfast and evening meals whilst the kitchen is in operation for residential groups.
