Recital GroupsLive Music in Hertfordshire SchoolsThere are four live music groups in Hertfordshire that visit schools every Tuesday morning. They are based in each area (North, South, East and West) for a term. The groups perform to Key Stage 1 and 2 children in the main, as part of the Hertfordsihre Music Service's Wider Opportunities programme. They also occasionally perform to students of Secondary School age. Three of the groups feature orchestra instruments: Strings (violin, viola and cello), Woodwind (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and saxophone) and Brass (Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone and Tuba). Their presentations take the form of a recital. The children are introduced to the sounds of the instruments and how that sound is produced. All the groups play a variety of music which will appeal to children. Some of the music will be instantly recognisable and some music is designed to appeal to their imagination. Many aspects of National Curriculum Music are covered in the presentations. Our fourth presentation is a Samba workshop for Year 5 and 6 pupils. This is a 'hands on' workshop which allows 2 one hour workshops of 30 children to play Brazilian Samba Music. Again many aspects of the Music National Curriculum are covered as well as experiencing some multi cultural music in a practical way. All these workshops are free to Hertfordshire Schools and are funded by the Standards Fund. If you would like a Live Music Group to come to your school. please contact your Area Manager.
