Check out www.numu.org.uk/songwriter-2009 to hear songs from the competition and to cast your votes for your favourite. Goldie, Boo Hewerdine and Annie Nightingale are among the successful professional songwriters and media personalities are giving up their time to support the song-writing of young people in Hertfordshire. Hertfordshire Music Service is running the competition to encourage the young people of Hertfordshire to write songs, and is offering workshops including some for hard to reach and vulnerable learners in partnership with Youth Music, District councils, and Youth Connexions. Song-writer 2009 is generously sponsored by Avid, who will donate recording equipment and software to winners. Contestants will also win recording and performing opportunities at showcases across the county; winning songs will be published on a compilation CD. Categories will run across the whole school age range, and is also open to young people aged up to 25, living, working or studying in the county.
