Taiko Festival Launched

The Taiko festival running over the weekend of 27th and 28th June was launched and run as a great success.

Free Music Festival for all Hertfordshire’s Young People comes to St Albans on 20 July 2008

The line up has now been announced and includes talented bands from all corners of HertfFestivalordshire. There will be 2 stages and a separate DJ hall where some of the best DJs in the county will be mixing sounds.

The festival will be alcohol-free, and admission is free of charge. All  young people aged 13-19 or up to 25 for those with a learning difficulty or disability - are welcome. Doors open at midday and close at 7pm. More...

 

'Vocalise' project up and running

The Vocalise project being coordinated by the Mix team in Hertfordshire Music Service is now up and running. The project is led in youth centres and schools and focuses on developing singing, rapping and other related music making.

4th UK Taiko Festival 28th-29th June 2008

Hertfordshire Music Service is joining in partnership with the Kagemusha Taiko group to host the 4th UK Taiko Festival in Rickmansworth; celebrating the launch of Taiko drumming in Hertfordshire. This will be a 2 day public event held on the 27th-28th of June.

The festival will feature performances from professional Taiko players as well as community groups and school ensembles. Special guests Joji Hirota and the Taiko Drummers will perform the main set on the evening of Friday 27th January

There will be opportunities for participants to join in with practical workshops and taster sessions, including expert tuition for complete beginners.

Taiko drumming is currently taught at the Stevenage Music and Arts Centre and at Monksmead School in Borehamwood. Following the festival, Hertfordshire Music Service are planning to integrate Taiko drumming across the county; offering tuition at more schools and community centres, investing in more drums and providing more expert tuition.

New Watford School of Music Opens

 

Hertfordshire Music Service and Watford Grammar School for Boys' are delgihted to announce the opening of their new joint venture. The new building named "Clarendon Muse" will house the Watford School of Music and the music department of the Boys' School.

Sing Up arrives in Hertfordshire

Hertfordshire Music Service
is Area Singing Leader for Hertfordshire for the new and exciting Music Manifesto National singing programme; Sing up.

Sing Up has been produced by Youth Music with AMV-BBDO, Faber Music Publishers and The Sage Gateshead, supported by Howard Goodall –the Singing Ambassador, and by Government. Sing up aims to raise the status of singing and increase opportunities for primary school-aged children throughout England to enjoy singing as part of their everyday lives.

Hertfordshire Music Service in partnership with University of Hertfordshire

In addition to this national campaign Hertfordshire Music Service has also embarked on an ambitious local initiative, funded by the University of Hertfordshire to support, nurture and develop singing with particular emphasis on Key Stage 1.

The combination of these two initiatives will enable the Music Service to develop a comprehensive programme of both singing experiences and CPD aimed specifically at classroom teaching. Read more...
