  • Developing gifted and talented provison as part of the Ofsted Action Plan
  • Helping schools to work collaboratively to improve provision for the gifted and talented and develop new initiatives
  • Offering advice in terms of appropriate supporting resources and useful links and contacts.

Staff meetings are an excellent opportunity to comprehensively cover a range of issues connected with the gifted and talented agenda. The County Adviser regularly addresses staff meetings, covering 'gifted and talented' - what it is and what it isn't' and also demonstrates practical ways in which all students can be challenged and stretched in lessons. Other themes have included thinking skills and Philosophy for Children.

Whole/ half day sessions can be incorporated into a school's training programme, covering any particular aspect of gifted and talented. some extensive work has been carried out with individual and groups of schools (for example some Primary Learning Networks) on thinking skills and enrichment/ extension strategies.

Different strands and current developments can be connected up through the work of the County Adviser - for example accelerated learning, multiple intelligences and creativity; all of these have direct relevance to and links to, gifted and talented education.

Where appropriate, the County Adviser is in an ideal position to link with other subject specific advisers, trainers and experts. With a background in the subject, Geography is his specialism - thus any school looking to stretch the more able in Geography has an opportunity to receive training and support in two areas.

The County Adviser has developed and run a successful programme of thinking skills days with primary schools. These are special days where all students in the school spend the whole day working on a series of creative and problem solving activities that are both highly enjoyable and develop higher order thinking skills to a greater degree.

All training and CPD is traded at SSE's current charges. Please make contact to discuss any precise training or CPD requirements that you have.
