What is the Trading Game?

  • child with beans in African countryA  simulation game that helps pupils easily understand how trade works, and how it benefits the prosperity of some countries and not others. It is ideal for extending work in geography, RE, citizenship and PSHE.
  • Up to 60 pupils can participate at one time – a session lasts 1.5 – 2hrs and works best with pupils in Year 5 and above
  • The pupils work in mixed ability groups, each group representing a nominated country. Materials and equipment are provided, with the amount varying between the countries. Pupils must manufacture shapes and get paid money for well-made articles.

  • A plenary session encourages pupils to think about what they have learnt from the experience and helps them make connections with their own lives.
