Paper MagicPaper Magic – The Schools Waste Paper Recycling Scheme

Waste Paper Recycling Scheme

A FREE waste paper collection & recycling scheme specially for schools.

The Paper Magic scheme is a unique interactive collection, recycling and re-use scheme for Schools. It is run by the Apsley Paper Trail charity as part of its Paper Trail project in Apsley, Hemel Hempstead., the birthplace of paper’s industrial revolution.

The scheme itself is quite simple – in exchange for schools collecting and sorting ‘office waste paper’ (white or coloured A4 and A3 paper, exercise book and old text book pages), Paper Magic will pick up the waste paper for FREE. Paper Magic re-manufacture it into new paper and reward the collection effort with new recycled paper for use in the school. There is also the opportunity to visit the Paper Trail project to see recycling in action, learn about 200 years of industrial history and experience other curriculum based activities.

Paper Magic Journey

A Scheme Where We All Win

Schools win because we collect their ‘office paper waste’ for free and provide new re-manufactured paper for the school to use. Our education support scheme provides educational visits to the paper trail project, curriculum support materials for teachers to use and even a structured work experience programme for year 10 and 11 pupils. Our Paper Magic Education Officers are available to conduct school assemblies, provide sustainability and recycling lessons and INSET courses.

Apsley Paper Trail Charity wins because the waste paper we collect from schools helps us to keep the historic Frogmore Mill paper machine running. In 1803 the world’s first commercial papermaking machine was installed at Frogmore Mill pioneering the volume availability of paper that fuelled the industrial revolution, enabled the institution of mass education and, in no small measure, helped create the modern world. Frogmore has been a working paper mill ever since, specialising in paper recycling since 1895 which is also the date of its current paper machine. With Paper Magic we aim to turn the world’s oldest commercial mechanised paper mill into one of the industry’s newest concepts — the community paper recycling mill.

The Community wins because Paper Magic unlocks the true value from office waste paper and diverts this waste from landfill. Because the Paper Trail Project’s charity ideals are to foster education, sustainability and access to all, it provides a unique resource that everyone can use and from which the whole community can benefit.
