What is E2BN?The East of England Broadband Network (E2BN) is one of 10 Regional Broadband Consortia (RBCs) set up by the Government to help raise standards in teaching and learning by the use of broadband technology. It is a consortium of the local authorities in the east of England – including Hertfordshire. E2BN aims to use the potential of ICT and broadband connectivity to provide services and resources to support and extend teaching and learning across the East of England region. These include:
It is well worth exploring the E2BN website and going to their annual conference in the summer. Video Conferencing & MulticlassThe E2BN site has a lot of advice and help with video conferencing. Much of this is on a separate micro site called multiclass (see below). Multi Conference UnitThey also provide access to a multi conference unit (MCU). This is a piece of hardware that will allow you to set up video conferences with two or more other people. The multiclass website is a directory and a source of information. Once you start using video-conferencing, it is worth registering with the multiclass directory. This will help you get in touch with other schools with similar interests and capabilities. Framework Contract In 2005, E2BN signed framework contracts with two companies who specialise in videoconferencing equipment. These make it easier and safer for you to buy video-conferencing hardware.
