The East of England Broadband Network (E2BN) is one of 10 Regional Broadband Consortia (RBCs) set up by the Government to help raise standards in teaching and learning by the use of broadband technology. It is a consortium of local authorities in the east of England.
E2BN aims to use the potential of ICT and broadband connectivity to provide services and resources to support and extend teaching and learning across the East of England region.
E2BN provide video conferencing connectivity to the National Education Network. They also have a Multipoint Control Unit (MCU) which allows you to hold video conferences with two or more other end-points.
They also host Flashmeeting which is a web-based video-conferencing service, allowing you to have video meetings with other people in the UK or abroad, using just a webcam.
In 2005, E2BN signed framework contracts with two companies who specialise in videoconferencing equipment. These make it easier and safer for you to buy video-conferencing hardware.

E2BN resources are freely accessible through the region.
Audio Network PLC and Freeplay Music offer thousands of music clips which can be downloaded and used for free in schools for educational, non-commercial purposes. This use should not include publishing multimedia or podcasts featuring music from these sites on the internet or emailed outside the school environment.
Copyright laws prevent you from using most recorded music but with these resources you can access a whole library of music of different styles and lengths for use in digital storytelling, video production, presentations etc. This represents a huge saving as on average tracks on the Audio Network cost £60 each.
Please note that you must be on a school computer to access the Audio Network PLC. Please read the terms of use for both these resources before using them.
The E2BN Gallery contains over 7, 000 high quality digital still images as well as film and sound clips contributed by members of the E2BN community. The resources are all copyright free for use in education. The resources are organised by category but are also searchable. Groups of pictures can be shown directly as a slideshow. Teachers can also register to upload their own images at camera quality and share them with other schools across the National Education Network.
Through E2BN, Hertfordshire schools can access
and download archive clips for free. These are the sort of clip
you often see on the news or nostalgia programmes.

This site, launched at BETT 2006, allows children to build animated stories using an on-line Flash interface. The aim is to build a repository of myths and legends that have grown up around places in the East of England as well as to support pupil story telling and writing. The site provides access to some free software which allows the generation of picture frame, recording of narration, adding sound effects and character voices, as well as uploading MP3 files
