General Information

What is Dance?

  • Learning in dance is more than just taking part in a physical activity.
  • The opportunity to create their own dances is important for children, as is learning to observe and reflect on their own work and that of others.
  • It is our responsibility as teachers to train pupils in the skills necessary to ensure they have the ability and opportunity to communicate meaning through movement.

" It is this element which distinguishes dance from other physical activities and shares characteristics with music, drama and art." (PE 5-16 P64 no. 28)

"Dance is the human activity most likely to promote Joy." (Dance UK/Foundation for Community Dance and The Observer)
