Scenario
DanceDigital is a dance development agency and exists to provide opportunities for dance creators and the community to engage with dance practice.  DanceDigital specialises in Dance and Technology, which can mean many different things, from projection in performance, to motion capture and to new media manipulation. DanceDigital works locally in Hertfordshire and Essex but the work has a regional, national and international outlook.

DanceDigital has two strands of work: Artistic and Learning.

  • The Artistic strand includes working with professional artists to create new work and programming dance performances at venues.
  • The Learning strand involves working with schools, colleges, universities and the community.  In Hertfordshire DanceDigital works in collaboration with the Hertfordshire Dance Adviser, Clare Mellish, to deliver the Hertfordshire Dance in Education Services contract for Hertfordshire County Council.

Outcomes
In the year 2009/2010 DanceDigital work in Hertfordshire reached over 9800 people as workshop participants or audience members.  Within the Hertfordshire Dance in Education Services contract, DanceDigital has managed and developed five main areas of work:

  • Hertfordshire Youth Dance Company
  • Hertfordshire Junior Dance Companies
  • Extended projects in schools
  • Community enrichment programme
  • Special School Integration project

Pupil Outcomes
DanceDigital strives to increase participation in high quality dance activity.  The programme of activity has increased the access and opportunity for young people to get involved in dance as participants or audience members.  This includes raising the standards and aspirations of gifted and talented young dancers as well as reaching out to new target groups.  There has been a focus on the positive inclusion of young people from BME groups, rural areas of the county and boys.

All projects are planned to offer legacies for further development in order to extend the benefits to more young people.

Progress
DanceDigital continually monitors and evaluates its programmes of work and aims to meet the needs of the schools and young people in Hertfordshire.  Future plans will look at linking the Artistic and Learning strands more closely, so that schools and pupils can benefit from working with the professional artists that DanceDigital commissions to create new work.
