Pupil Voice

Citizenship provides learning opportunities for pupils, from the Foundation Stage, through Key Stages 1 to 4 and for students in the post-16 sector, to gain the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to play an effective role in society at local, national and international levels. It is a statutory subject in KS3 and KS4. It:

  • promotes spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, making them more self-confident and responsible both in and beyond the classroom.
  • helps them to become informed, thoughtful and responsible citizens who are aware of their duties and rights.
  • encourages pupils to play a helpful part in the life of their schools, neighbourhoods, communities and the wider world.
  • teaches them about our economy, democratic institutions and values.
  • encourages respect for different national, religious and ethnic identities.
  • develops pupils' ability to reflect on issues and take part in discussions.

This website aims to give Hertfordshire schools some support with the implementation of this subject.

The information and links on these pages are intended to provide basic information for teachers and/or students in county schools. Whilst every effort has been taken to guarantee the accuracy and appropriateness of both factual content and external links, users should be aware that citizenship information is constantly evolving and that the content on linked pages may well change over time.

Information and links on the website will be monitored on a regular basis, and amended as appropriate. Users are cordially requested to support us in this effort by checking material and links prior to classroom use and by notifying us of any problems with information or links that become apparent. We would be particularly grateful for any suggestions about further areas or material which users believe it would be helpful for us to include as we further develop this web area.
