Education Support Centres in HertfordshireHertfordshire has eight Education Support Centres (ESCs) each serving a specific area of the authority. In other authorities similar provision is often referred to as Pupil Referral Units (PRUs). The ESCs are located as follows:
The Education Support Centres cater for secondary pupils who have been permanently excluded from school and for whom an immediate return to another school is inappropriate. The Education Support Centres are intended to provide full-time short-term provision for a number of weeks after which pupils are, in the majority of cases, re-integrated back into school. Whilst at the Education Support Centre pupils receive full-time education and support, where appropriate, for their individual behaviour problems. Outreach work from the Education Support Centres into schools is targeted at pupils who may have had 3 fixed term exclusions but who are identified by the school as being at risk of permanent exclusion. Outreach work caters for children of all ages at school (primary and secondary). |
