Safeguarding Induction Pack for Staff

DSPs are responsible for ensuring that new staff receive a safeguarding induction, which briefs them on the safeguarding arrangements within the school and their individual responsibilities for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Following induction, Safeguarding Children training needs to be arranged as soon as possible – this may be by joining another school, or arranging a cluster session for a group of schools.

In the short term, a safeguarding induction programme for new staff is essential. The induction programme should also include delivery of the school's child protection policy.

To assist the DSP, the CPSLO team has produced two resources:

Safeguarding Induction Presentation for New Staff updated
Safeguarding Children - Quick Reference for New Staff or Volunteers updated
Annual Refresher for School Staff new

The safeguarding induction should also include sharing the school's Child Protection Policy, and other safeguarding policies as appropriate, with the new member of staff.

The DSP should record the names of those who have received a safeguarding induction and the date. Staff should sign this record.
