Early Years
The Early Years team provides a range of traded and centrally funded training, consultancy
support and advice services to all staff working in the Foundation Stage across Hertfordshire
with the aim of improving standards and quality in early years’ settings, including childminders.
 The Early Years team is also an integral
part of the Young in Herts partnership,
Hertfordshire’s early years development
and childcare partnership, which includes
representation from Hertfordshire County
Council, the National Childminding
Association (NCMA), Pre-school
Learning Alliance (PsLA) and the NHS.
The team facilitate networks across the county for foundation stage practitioners to meet
together and share good practice. Non-maintained settings have to show involvement with a
network - then applying for funding and to enable them to meet OfSTED requirements.
The Hertfordshire Quality Standards (HQS), a quality improvement scheme for providers of
early education and childcare in Hertfordshire, is also supported and verified by the Early
Years team.
