Hertfordshire Equipment Service

All activity within HES revolves around the delivery of ‘loan’ equipment to Hertfordshire residents who have a permanent or substantial disability or illness following an assessment by a social/health care professional. This equipment allows people to remain independent in their home environment.

A variety of equipment (as listed in the catalogue) is:

  • Purchased by the Buying team and stored in the warehouse ready for issue
  • The Customer Services Team act as the link between health and social care professionals, clients and their families/carers, and the delivery team
  • Equipment is delivered, installed and its use demonstrated to the client and/or carer
  • Adaptations to stairs, bathrooms, toilets and entrance/exits are carried out at the clients premises
  • Collected and cleaned/decontaminated following a guideline set down by the Medicines & Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency
  • Serviced, repaired and tested by the engineering team, and provided all the safety checks are satisfactory the equipment will be ready for re-issue
  • The engineering team are also responsibly for the service and maintenance of equipment in clients homes

Activity is monitored by the Department of Health who have set the Key Performance Indicator for the period 2007/8 for the delivery of equipment at 88% delivered within 7 working days of the ‘Decision to Supply’ date

In 2006/7 the KPI was set at 85% with HES achieving 88%

Anticipated growth areas for 2008/9 are:

  • Health Paediatrics – an increase in the supply of health designated equipment for children
  • The continued development of Telecare Equipment
  • The extension of Suction Machine provision to east and north Hertfordshire
  • The introduction of a Rapid Response Team to support Hospital discharge/Prevention of Admission in line with PCT developments
