Financial Management in Schools

The Secretary of State for Education announced on 15th November 2010 that the current Financial Management Standard in Schools (FMSiS) is to be withdrawn with immdeiate effect . It will be replaced with a new, simpler system for achieving effective financial management which will be introduced in 2011.

Schools will no longer be expected to complete a FMSiS self assessment; produce an annual Statement of Internal Control; or undertake any actions expected purely to comply with the FMSiS.

However, the removal of the FMSiS does not signal a reduction in the standard of the financial management expected in schools. Schools should continue to consider the objectives and priciples included in the FMSiS.
