Employee assistance programme

Last updated on 04 October 2023

Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP) are designed to help people understand or overcome their personal problems. The EAP would provide staff/managers with confidential support and advice (including financial) as well as counselling.

This is an optional service for settings and is a different service to Occupational Health.

EAP services can be accessed by settings through either the Hertfordshire County Council framework below or the HFL Education framework.

HFL Education: Occupational health

Workplace Wellness

To complement existing services and offer employees around the clock access to confidential, independent, professional information and emotional support, Hertfordshire County Council has appointed Workplace Wellness to provide a new and independent employee support service. HCC have a framework setup with Workplace Wellness (Right Corecare Limited t/a Vita Health Group) that schools can use to easily procure an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) provider should they wish to do so. It is an optional service.

We can all benefit from professional, independent advice, help and support at various stages throughout our lives. The Workplace Wellness EAP is a free, confidential service which offers employees expert guidance, invaluable information, specialist counselling and support any time, day or night, either over the telephone or online.

Where appropriate, the EAP can also provide you with up to 6 sessions of face to face counselling.

The EAP will help you prepare for, and cope successfully with, life's events and challenges. The things that could derail you, causing you to become distracted, anxious, or feel out of control. The EAP can help you with the things which leave you feeling like you just don’t know where to turn or who to go to for the right information and help you need, including:

  • consumer rights and legal information - benefits, housing problems, tax credits, disability, neighbour disputes
  • debt management and budgeting - creditors, financial health check
  • emotional support - poor work/life balance, illness, crisis, anxiety, loss, self-confidence, workplace pressure
  • family relationships - communication, marriage, co-habitation, coping with teenagers
  • health and wellbeing - problems sleeping, fitness, weight management, alcohol, nutrition
  • work and career issues – change, team dynamics, work overload, conflict

Life can be a rollercoaster and many of the above are an inevitable part of everyday living, but it helps us to manage them positively if we have prompt access to the right information and support.
