NVQs offered by Standards and School Effectiveness for support staff in schools are:

An NVQ Start Session

This usually consists of 1 full day or half day training session dependent on qualification. The session will cover the following:

  • an introduction to NVQ's
  • the principles of competence based assessment
  • the qualification National Standards
  • how to achieve the award
  • an action plan
  • initial assessment activity to identify appropriate level of NVQ to work towards
  • agreeing an assessment plan with the candidate's assessor

At the end of the session candidates will have identified which level of NVQ they will work towards and identified evidence they are able to produce immediately, evidence to gather and their training needs to complete the award. Candidates will have agreed an assessment plan with their assessor and be equipped to begin working towards the award.

Outcomes

Candidates who complete an NVQ will have a:

  • qualification based on performance at work
  • qualification which is based on developing the skills used
  • documented record of achievement
  • professional Development portfolio.
