Continuing Professional Development for Support Staff

The Resource Library at Hertfordshire Development Centre

Who are we?

The Learning Resource Centre (LRC), part of Standards and School Effectiveness, is based at the Hertfordshire Development Centre. Our services are designed to provide support material for all members of the Children’s Workforce.

Professional Development

The LRC supports staff in their individual professional development. We can provide books for loan on a wide range of education topics including:

  • Teaching
  • Learning
  • Assessment
  • School leadership
  • Special needs
  • Behaviour management
  • Child welfare
  • Early years provision
  • Research methods
  • Extended schools
  • Health and Safety

Our resources support a wide range of training courses, not just those offered at the Hertfordshire Development Centre.

In addition to our book resource we also hold a range of Government publications and educational periodicals.

How do I use the library?

Access to the Centre services and products is available free of charge as part of your school’s Membership Plus, Partnership or Governors support package. Information on membership is available on request - please call the LRC staff.

To arrange the loan of a book, video, artefact or equipment, simply phone the Resource Centre on 01438 844865 or email hdc.library@hertscc.gov.uk. The requested item will then be sent directly to your school via the school courier service and can be returned in the same way.

Alternatively, you are welcome to visit the library at the Hertfordshire Development Centre. Our opening times are Monday to Friday as follows:

Term time

08:30 to 17:15 (16:30 on Friday)

School holidays

10:00 to 16:00 please ring prior to visiting

If we are unable to provide the material requested our librarian is always on hand to offer alternative suggestions, please feel free to call or email.
