M.Ed in Teaching and Learning
Twenty teachers each year commence this two-year Masters Degree,
which is co-ordinated and accredited by the University of Cambridge.
Many students occupy assistant head teacher, deputy headteacher,
and
subject leader or middle manager roles in their schools. Students
find that this intensive professional development activity equips
them with the knowledge and skills needed to initiate, lead and
manage research based school development work.
At the heart of the course is a piece of school based research
in an area of interest agreed with the University which links into the school's development priorities. Research outcomes
are disseminated within Hertfordshire and through the HertsCam network. Students are also encouraged
to participate in special interest groups related to the theme of their research and comprising other
students and advisers.
Tuition costs are currently funded by Hertfordshire to the value of
£1542. This covers tuition fees for students who have
been resident in the UK for the last 3 years. Tuition fees
for students who have not been resident in the Uk for the last
3 years are charged by Cambridge at £4416. Unfortunately
the difference between Hertfordshire's contribution and Cambridge
overseas fees would need to be met by the student.
Individuals or their schools will be responsible for payment of the college membership fee (approximately £390 pa), a fee charged by the Faculty of Education to cover the costs of residential conferences and networking arrangements (approximate annual fee of £295) and travelling expenses. Schools will be expected to make any arrangements for supply cover on the one Friday each term when participants will attend residential conferences.
The recruitment process for this programme commences each Easter through
direct mailings to schools. Interviews and selection procedures are completed
every July for a September start to the course.
