Graduate and Registered Teacher Programme
If
you are not able to appoint a fully qualified teacher to a vacancy in
your school you may like to consider the Graduate and Registered Training
Programme (GRTP). This enables schools to employ teachers who are not
yet qualified and to support them through an individual training programme
leading to QTS.
Graduate trainees already have a degree and follow a one year post-graduate
training programme while working as a teacher.
Registered trainees have two years of higher education and follow a two
year programme while working and training as a teacher and completing
a degree course.
The Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) is responsible
for running the programme in England. Packs of information and application
forms can be obtained by phoning 01245 454444. Email: grtp@tdainfo.co.uk
Grants are available for training and, in the case of the Graduate scheme,
towards salary costs.
The Graduate and Registered Teacher Programme (GRTP) is an employment-based
route to QTS. This route allows unqualified teachers in a school to follow
a training programme towards QTS whilst being employed. To find out more
about this route contact the GRTP Information Line on 01245 454444.
Individuals interested in obtaining QTS will require GCSE Grade C or
above in mathematics and English. Those wishing to teach the primary
age range who were born on or after 1st September 1979 are also required
to have a GCSE Grade C or above in one of the sciences.
For those who would like to improve their subject knowledge, there is
a catalogue of pre and in-course study materials is available on the
TDA website:
