Returners - Club, Courses and Conferences
In Hertfordshire, we welcome teachers who wish to return to the profession
after a career break.
Returners' Club - meets every Monday during term-time
12.30 - 2.00 pm offering updates and CPD to those who have been out of
the profession. It is free and organised on a drop in basis, so members
can dip in and out of sessions - for further details and a course programme,
please follow the link to Teaching in Herts:
The DCSF recommends that anyone who has been out of teaching for several years should complete a returner course.
We are planning to run a Joint Primary/Secondary in January-May 2009.
Courses are approximately 15 weeks, with a one day a week taught session and a two/three week full-time school placement.
For further information and an application form, see:
Teaching Taster Courses
Teaching Taster Courses are regularly run by Herts LA to provide an
overview of teaching from a practical perspective.
We are planning the following courses:
- Men into Primary 14th - 16th October 2008 (Fielder Centre, Hatfield)
- Minority Ethnic – 12th - 14th November 2008 (EMA Centre, Watford)
- Secondary Priority Shortage Subjects - 27th - 29th January 2009 (HDC Stevenage)
Courses are free and include one day's closely supervised observation
in a Hertfordshire school to provide an opportunity to experience what
it is like to teach in the classroom today.
We are always looking for schools to participate in these valuable courses
by offering a day's experience to potential teachers. We have found that
some schools have recruited a GTP candidate from these introductions!
Please let us know if you can help out.
