Values and Principles

Hertfordshire LA believes that the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) of the whole workforce of our schools:

  • Supports the improvement of children and young people's achievement and life chances and the delivery of the Every Child Matters agenda
  • Provides a role model for lifelong learning and helps develop inclusive learning communities
  • Supports the delivery and implementation of school, LA and national priorities and initiatives
  • Promotes self confidence, morale, well being and collegiality amongst the whole school workforce
  • Is an entitlement to which all members of the school workforce should have equal access
  • Is the professional responsibility of the individual and of their school
  • Should support those in the school community to update their knowledge, skills and understanding and enhance their own practice
  • Should support individual aspirations, career progression and performance management
  • Involves diverse learning and development experiences including professional reflection and enquiry, research, face to face training, visits and observations in and beyond the individual's school, networking, coaching and mentoring, e-learning etc.
  • Should draw on best practice from our own schools and from beyond
  • Should be reviewed and evaluated by the individual, their school and by providers to assess its impact on learning and teaching and to inform future provision.
