Continuing Professional Development for Secondary School Librarians

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) meetings

An annual subscription entitles CPD members to attend six half-day CPD meetings per year. These are to enable librarians to network with other library professionals, to share good practice and to discuss topics relating to libraries, reading and information literacy. Most meetings have a visiting speaker. Recent topics have included plagiarism, information literacy and the sixth form (including the Extended Project Qualification) and gifted and talented pupils in the library. One meeting per year includes a visit from an inspirational and innovative school librarian and another is a more formal networking meeting. An information sheet containing a synopsis of each meeting is sent to all CPD members, including copies of any handouts and extras such as Powerpoint presentations.

Support

CPD members are entitled to unlimited telephone and email support during the year. Also included is access to the SLS professional collection (with free delivery and collection of items). For an additional charge an onsite visit can be arranged when an SLS librarian can work with the school librarian as a critical friend to help to develop the library.

Discounts

CPD members are entitled to the following discounts:
12% discount on SLS training and events
15% discount on most books purchased through SLS
25% discount on library development support
