Schools’ Chemical & Waste Disposal Annual Exercise

The Annual Process

In the Autumn Term a letter will be sent to the Head of Science at all appropriate schools to remind them that this annual service is available.

In the past we have also sent out the form with the letter, which is now available to download from this page. The form can be printed off, filled in by hand and posted to us or completed electronically and emailed or sent to the e-fax number to reduce the amount of paper used.

The Science Technician should list on the form any chemicals which need to be disposed off and return it to the Science Adviser – usually the deadline is 31st January of the following year :

  • eg form sent out Autumn Term 2008, form to be returned by 31st January 2009.

After 31st January the forms will be collated by the Science Admin and passed on to the CSF Health & Safety Team who actually pay for the exercise and who liaise with the disposal company.

The disposal company will check the information on the forms. Should they have any queries or feel they can not dispose of any of the listed items they will inform CSF H&S and the Science Adviser and the school will be notified.

Collection usually takes place during the latter part of the Spring Term. You will be advised of the collection date in advance by either CSF Health & Safety or the disposal company.

Chemical Disposal Form & Frequently Asked Questions
IMPORTANT

If at any time you are concerned because you have chemicals or other substances that may be a Health & Safety hazard, please contact the Science Adviser for advice on how to deal with the situation.

If there is no immediate danger you will probably be advised to make the chemicals secure until the next annual chemical collection.

If necessary, it may be possible to arrange for a special collection to deal with a particular problem but whereas the cost of the annual chemical collection is met by the Health & Safety Team any extra collections will probably be charged to the school.
