Safeguarding children – Child Sexual Exploitation resources - CSE Awareness Day 2019
Preventing CSE through the curriculum
Schools are ideally placed to help educate and deliver information about CSE. Whilst curriculum time for PSHE and SRE lessons is vital to provide a coherent development programme, learning can also be enhanced by integrating CSE awareness and we hope that our resource pack will help to make it easier to do this.
We are asking all secondary schools in Hertfordshire to use these free resources, which include a video and a quiz to encourage discussion, as part of an assembly or a 30-minute lesson. We’re also asking professionals and students to make a pledge to stand against CSE by writing a personal message using our #saysomething speech bubble template.
We’re then encouraging schools to display these pledges somewhere in the school and to post a photo of these messages on social media using the hashtags #saysomething or #STOPCSE in #Hertfordshire #CSEDay19. You can tag us using @hertscc and @ychertfordshire on Twitter and Instagram and @hertscountycouncil on Facebook – we will share these photos for schools; you can also email them to us at email@example.com as we’ll be promoting every school that gets involved in the campaign with their local newspaper.
YC Hertfordshire also runs programmes and workshops to help educate young people about respectful relationships and recognising the signs of grooming and exploitation. If you think that you might benefit from using their services to provide tailored information for your students, you can find out more at www.ychertfordshire.org or contact Jonathan Jack on firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
This toolkit is for all teachers of KS3 and KS4 and has been created in partnership with the Hertfordshire Safeguarding Children’s Board and Herts Constabulary. It contains a link to a video which can be played in assemblies along with resources to enable group discussion work, a student activity and quiz for use in a PSHE lesson or tutor time.
It also contains links to resources for further support on the topic and a short survey so we can assess the effectiveness of these tools.
