Boys' Writing

Boys' writing project

The programme aims to support schools for whom improving boys’ writing is an identified issue in their school improvement plan or SEF. Half-day training is provided for each of six modules (to be attended by Head teacher and one other key member of staff with responsibility for literacy) Professional development meetings will then be delivered in school. Leading teacher support is offered for up to 3 days per school year.

Six Modules

3 core (compulsory) themes:

      1. Use of teaching sequence for writing
     2. High expectations and assessment      
     3. Feedback which celebrates achievement

3 additional (optional) themes:

      4. Talk for writing
     5. Use of visual texts
     6. Cross-curricular development
