Young Games Maker Programme
When we won the bid to host the London 2012 Games, we made a promise to inspire more young people to choose sport. One of the ways we can do this is through volunteering. We’re proud to offer more than 2,000 opportunities for 16-18 year olds to volunteer at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
We’re looking for recognised organisations such as youth or sports clubs and community and volunteering groups, as well as Get Set Network schools and colleges, to put forward over 250 teams of young volunteers to help us fulfil vital roles and help make the Games happen.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for young people to get involved in the greatest show on earth – while learning new skills, gaining experience and making new friends.
Young Games Makers will be needed in the Technology department and across a number of sports, from Aquatics and Athletics to Taekwondo and Volleyball.
Applications are open from 22 September until midnight on 31 October 2011.
Please note that Taekwondo applications will close on 13 October to give us enough time to select teams for the Taekwondo test event on 3 December.
Please read all the information in this section before deciding whether to apply. The Have you got what it takes page is a good place to start:
Young Games Maker teams
We want to make sure that Young Games Makers have a fantastic experience, and that they are well cared for throughout their volunteer journey. As a result, each role is for a team of young people, headed by a team leader who already works with them – like a teacher or youth leader.
Team leaders will apply for a role on behalf of the young volunteers, and will be responsible for them during selection events, training and the Games.
Reading Relay - Olympics Project
A project to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and ParalympicGames and to enable schools to create links with schools in other authorities
Schools are invited to take part in a unique and exciting multi-authority project to celebrate the London 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Mirroring the concept of the Olympic Torch Relay, the Reading Relay will create links between schools across several local authorities and encourage children to share and talk about their favourite books.
Application Form must be returned by 25 March 2011. More...
