Progression and TransitionTransfer of Information on Primary LanguagesThere are many different transition situations and sets of circumstances in the local authority and, as primary languages are still in a developmental process of implementation, the linguistic experience of incoming Year 7 pupils (or year 5 in the case of middle schools) may be quite variable for some time. The KS2 Framework for Languages and the Languages review (Mar 2007) both encourage schools to measure pupil progress at KS2 by reference to the Languages Ladder and to pass this information onto KS3 teachers. Whilst this is already happening in some cases, most primary schools are still in the very early stages of assessment and may not feel ready to do this yet. Equally, some secondary departments may not feel that such detailed information is necessary at this stage. In view of these considerations, we have devised two pro formas to record information on pupils’ language learning experiences in KS2: a basic version with the essential information MFL departments would find useful to inform their planning, and a version with specific information on pupil progress on the Languages Ladder. Please note that National Curriculum levels and Languages Ladder grades have been aligned. Primary Languages Transition - Basic
