Introduction

The idea for a Primary Languages toolkit came about as a result of ongoing discussions between the LA and Hertfordshire’s seven Specialist Language Colleges (SLCs). It was recognised that there was a need to extend the support and expertise of the SLCs to impact on Hertfordshire primary schools beyond their immediate partner schools and that this should be coordinated in order to avoid unnecessary replication. The toolkit contains ideas, resources and links to support the delivery of languages at Key Stage 2 and was initially presented on the European Day of Languages 2007. It is intended that the toolkit is added to as further information and resources become available. If you have resources that you are happy to share, please send them as an attachment to my e-mail address below.

I would like to thank Hertfordshire’s seven language colleges for their support and enthusiastic collaboration in this project and in particular the following members of staff for their hard work in ensuring that it came to fruition:

Ashlyns School – Jane O’Donnell
Beaumont School – Alison Ough
Dame Alice Owen’s School – Katharine Wheatley
Goffs School – Catherine Scott
Hockerill Anglo-European College - Toby McPhilemy
Presdales School – Julie Fogg
St Clement Danes School – Florence Graham
